Overview... middle-aged, widowed, and raising her daughter on her own. Aurora is shocked when her daughter Emma immediately gets married after high school and moves away, leaving Aurora alone with her grief. Although she begins to attract strange suitors from the neighborhood, Aurora primarily has eyes for her neighbor: Garrett Breedlove, a retired astronaut turned playboy.
Personality… anxious, repressed, and snappy. Aurora will shoot a quippy comeback at you before you even insult her in the first place. She worries about all kinds of things, including big things like the future of her daughter. Aurora can be quite self-centered, but will always put Emma before anyone else in her heart – even if they often want to strangle each other.

Aurora and Emma are mother and daughter who march to different drummers. Beginning with Emma's marriage, Aurora shows how difficult and loving she can be. The movie covers several years of their lives as each finds different reasons to go on living and find joy. Aurora's interludes with Garrett Breedlove, retired astronaut and next door neighbor are quite striking.
