Character Analysis

Grew up…in Camelot, under the watchful eye of Uther Pendragon, his father and the king of Camelot. Arthur’s mother died in childbirth. Arthur grew up trying to please his father, especially since he will someday take the throne after Uther. Morgana, the king’s ward, was raised in the castle along with Arthur, and is like a sister to him.
Living… still in the castle. But as a young man, Arthur is not only in training to become king, but is an active commander of Camelot’s forces, frequently riding out to battle supernatural forces. Uther has placed a harsh ban on any magic whatsoever in the kingdom, and Arthur often enforces that.
Profession… crown prince. Arthur works tirelessly to prove that he will be a good ruler; he tries to be just, strong, and brave. He’s also a bit entitled, though, treating his servants rudely and lording it over lesser folk.
Interests… fighting, making fun of his servant Merlin.
Relationship Status… single. His marriage must be for the good of the kingdom. It’s unfortunate, then, that the only woman he’s ever really cared for is Gwen, the daughter of a blacksmith and Morgana’s servant. He knows they can never be together, though.
Challenge…proving himself as a great king. Unbeknownst to Arthur, he’s destined to unite the five kingdoms and bring about an era of peace and prosperity. He’s already found himself struggling to uphold his father’s draconian laws.
Personality… arrogant, but also brave and just. At first, Arthur comes off as a jerk – he orders people around, and laughs when Merlin makes mistakes. He’s well aware of his status, and not afraid to throw it around. But underneath that, he’s deeply concerned about the welfare of his people, and he desperately wants to be a good king. Arthur is more compassionate than his father, often asking for leniency on the behalf of others.

Within a week of being in Camelot, teenage Merlin discovered a dragon trapped in the depths of the caverns below the castle. It tells him that he has a great destiny, to bring about an era of peace and the restoration of magic. But he's nowhere near prepared to do that.

A young King Arthur is awoken from his sleep by bad dreams, about a boy who is made king because he pulls a sword from a stone. He goes to Merlin to seek his counsel, and Merlin begins a story of his own, about a young boy with strange abilities and visions. The boy, called Emrys, is feared in his village called of as a demon. Eventually, King Vortigern comes and forces his village to build a tower for him. However, the tower crumbles. His wizards advise him to find a demon boy and spill his blood upon the ground. However, when the boy is brought before Vortigern, he predicts that there is a pool of water beneath the foundations of the castle that weaken it. The workers find a pool of water and two strange stones, from which two beasts emerge, a white and a red dragon.

In 5th Century Britian, a young Merlin struggles for his place in his known land under the tutelage of The Mage, a local wizard whom sees the young man's potential for magic, as well as face off against his evil former friend, Vendiger, whom plots with a feudal warlord king to conquer all of Britian using an army of flying dragons, and only Merlin with the alliance of the local Prince Uther and Ingraine and a pair of mystical goddesses, can have the power to stop the evil from taking over the land.

"Merlin: The Return" is the story of the battle between good and evil. The dark forces of Mordred are pitted against the mythical sorcery of Merlin. Mordred and his mother Morgana have been imprisoned in another world for the past 1500 years while Merlin's magical powers kept them at bay. However, in the present, a scientist accidentally finds the gateway to the other world and is about to release Mordred into 20th Century life. Arthur is reawakened from his slumber and together with Merlin, tries to find a way to stop Mordred from re-entering this world
