Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… with his bubbly partner, Albert, in an apartment decorated with more nude statues of men than you will ever see in one place. They even have fancy china with naked men on them.

Profession… owner of The Birdcage, a popular drag club in Miami's South Beach. Armand is content and successful, and Albert is the star of the show.

Interests… his son Val who is a result of a one-night stand that Armand had with a woman over two decades ago. With Albert, Armand has raised Val without much help from his mother. Arnand would do anything for Val.

Relationship Status… in love with Albert. Even though Albert can be outrageous and emotional, Armand loves him deeply.

Challenge… pretending to be something he’s not. Val just got engaged to the daughter of an incredibly conservative Ohio Senator and co-founder of the Coalition for Moral Order. The senator and his wife are sure to object to the carefree life of a gay couple in Miami, so his son’s new fiancé told her parents that Armand was the cultural attaché to Greece, and that he was married to a woman. From a moral standpoint, Armand wonders whether they should have to hide who they really are. They might not be a conventional family, but they're certainly a loving and functional one. Not to mention the fact that Albert can hardly pass as a straight man.

Personality… loving, caring, fun, and always the life of the party. Armand mixes business with pleasure, as his drag club is both wildly fun and incredibly successful. But if he needs to – and he certainly does now – he can become serious and practical. At heart, Armand is a businessman and a loving father.
