April Kepner

Grew Up... with a strong sense of faith on a farm in Columbus, Ohio. She was raised in a loving Christian family that included her teacher mother, farmer father, three sisters, and tons of pets. Growing up, her sisters nicknamed her ”duckie” (a.k.a. the ugly ducking) because of her acne, braces, and glasses.

Living... with a lot of work-related stress, in Seattle, Washington.

Profession... surgical resident at the newly merged Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital. April was originally completing her residency at Mercy West Medical Center but when the two hospitals merged, she and her fellow residents became the “new kids” at Seattle Grace. 

Interests... getting up early, cooking,and reciting uplifting mantras. But above all, April’s biggest passion is her faith. She’sa devout Christian who constantly strives to wed her spiritually with her medical training. She never judges others for their personal beliefs, and instead is open-minded, empathetic, and forgiving.

Relationship Status... none. April hasn’t had a lot of experience with dating due both to her deep Christian faith and the fact that she thinks guys find her “annoying.” She isn’t a fan of casual hook-ups and she once asked, “Whatever happened to good, old-fashioned romance? “ 

Challenge... conquering her own insecurities. April’s self-doubt is so crippling, she has to write down motivational sayings in her diary to help her cope. But deep down she believes she can one day be the future of medicine. Or at least she wants to believe she can be.

Personality... perky, compassionate, creative, and neurotic… with an inner tenaciousness she doesn’t always know is there. April is an emotional person, which is both her greatest strength and greatest weakness as a doctor. She provides compassionate care to her patients, but she can also get too emotionally invested in their stories or too devastated by her mistakes. Although she often doubts herself, April has the makings of a brilliant, resourceful surgeon with a knack for thinking on her feet.
