Grew Up... into the woman she was always meant to be. As a transwoman, Angel forged her own identity from a young age. When her parents didn’t accept her, she ran away from home.
Living... in late 1980s New York City. Angel is part of ballroom culture, a vibrant underground scene where people of the LGBT community walk, pose, vogue, and show off their fashion sense. Angel had been competing for the catty House of Abundance, but when her friend Blanca forms her own house, Angel becomes one of the founding members of the House of Evangelista. Their apartment might not be as nice, but the family environment is much more supportive.
Profession... sex worker. Angel’s work ranges from the relative safety of peep show performing to the more dangerous job of working the piers. Particularly as a transwoman, her well being is often at risk, but sex work is one of the few jobs that’s open to her.
Interests... fashion, make-up, and style.
Relationship Status... it’s complicated. After meeting at the piers, Angel becomes the mistress of one of her clients, a married businessman named Stan Bowes. Stan is infatuated with Angel and seems to love her for who she is. He even gets her an apartment so she can live in comfort between their visits. But is Stan a true Prince Charming or just someone who wants to keep Angel locked away?
Challenge... finding herself. Angel’s bravery has taken her far, but she’s still struggling to find her place in the world. As she puts it, “I’m tired of being humiliated. I deserve more. I’m worthy of better. I just need to know somebody has my back.” Her relationship with Stan provides a new spark, but she isn’t sure if that’s enough. The one place Angel finds true fulfillment is in the ballroom scene, where she’s one of the major stars. If only there were a way to translate her ballroom skills to the wider world…
Personality... both forceful and ethereal. Befitting her name, Angel sometimes has an otherworldly, head-in-the-clouds demeanor. She’s bewitching and soft-spoken, although she has a devilish side too. Particularly with her house siblings, Angel is hilariously snarky and sarcastic. She can also be her own worst enemy. Angel’s learned the street smarts she needs to survive in a tough world, but she can be immature, impetuous, and self-doubting. Angel has a deep inner strength, she’s just still learning to fully unlock it.
