(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew up…with his mom and his older brother Ed. Al was a happy kid, learning alchemy and playing with his brother. That is, until his mother died, and the two brothers tried to bring her back with alchemy. The process went horribly wrong, leaving Al as a disembodied soul trapped in a suit of armor, and causing Ed to lose his arm and leg.
Living… in the capital, with Ed. Ed has become a state alchemist, working for the government and the military. But really, they’re planning to use his state alchemist credentials to investigate some way to regain their bodies.
Profession… alchemist. While Al’s not as accomplished as his brother, he’s still really good. He helped with original experiment, but now that he’s a giant suit of armor, there’s no way he can become a state alchemist. Someone will surely figure out that there’s no one inside the armor, and that the cause was an illegal resurrection attempt.
Interests… learning more about the Philosopher’s Stone, a legendary substance that enables alchemists to ignore the law of equivalent exchange. Finding it is the only way Al and Ed can get their bodies back.
Relationship Status… single. Although Al looks like a giant armored man, he’s actually just a little boy, and one who’s a little shy at that.
Challenge… getting his body back, and finding the Philosopher’s Stone. If the Stone isn’t actually just a myth. But Al doesn’t think it is, especially since whenever they get close to a clue, they keep encountering mysteriously powerful people aligned against them.
Personality… sweet, intelligent, and moral. Al’s devotion to his brother is incredible, and his willingness to sacrifice himself is inspiring. He’s still young, and he has plenty of moments of doubt and insecurity. Sometimes, he wonders if he ever really was a normal boy, or if his memories are fake. Most of the time, though, he’s concentrated on moving forward. He’s the cool head to Ed’s hot temper, and it’s up to him to do the deep philosophizing about their mission.
