Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew Up... in the Chantry. As a boy, Alistair was sent away to the Chantry by his stepmother so he could train as a Templar, although really it was because she thought he was her husband’s illegitimate child. But in reality, he is King Maric’s bastard son.
Living... with the Warden. Although he was inexperienced, Alistair proudly joined the Warden’s party as its first member. However, once the journey began, not even his typical humor could mask his growing apprehension.
Profession... Grey Warden. Despite his years of studying, Alistair eventually left the monastery because of his lack of faith. But he wasn’t a great warrior either. However, he did have a good heart, so his father’s friend Duncan conscripted him from the Chantry to become a Darkspawn-slaying Grey Warden.
Interests... the occult. Alistair is curious about stones and runes associated with the arcane and the occult. Maybe this interest in dark magic is why religion never suited him.
Relationship Status... interested. Some accounts of Alistair’s travels with the Warden mention a romance between the two, but others do not. It depends on who is telling the tale.
Challenge... saving Ferelden. As part of the Warden’s party, Alistair helps unify the warring magical fantasy kingdom of Ferelden so that it can be strong enough to ward off the true enemy: an onslaught of demonic invaders.
Personality... outwardly funny, charming, playful, and kind. But he can also be reluctant and a bit insecure. He has the potential to be a hero, he just needs to work on it. As he says, “That’s what I’m here for. To deliver unpleasant news and witty one-liners.”
