Overview… sculptress. Alexandra resides in a cottage on the river in the cozy seaside New England town of Eastwick. She spends much of her free time with her best friends Sukie and Jane pursuing a wide variety of activities – macramé, quilting, and cooking, sipping martinis and talking about men.
Personality… blunt, sassy, and sexual. Though a widow, Alexandra has moved from the grieving stage to the single-and-ready-to-mingle stage. She describes herself as “fabulous” and she likes to wear shirts that bare her midriff for all to see. It is Alexandra who whips Sukie and Jane into a frenzy with an inspirational speech. Channeling her inner William Jennings Bryan, she encourages her also single friends to grab life by the horns and find themselves a man. Like, say, Eastwick’s intriguing newcomer, Daryl Van Horne.

Toward the end of the Vietnam era, in a snug little Rhode Island seacoast town, wonderful powers have descended upon Alexandra, Jane, and Sukie, bewitching divorcées with sudden access to all that is female, fecund, and mysterious. Alexandra, a sculptor, summons thunderstorms; Jane, a cellist, floats on the air; and Sukie, the local gossip columnist, turns milk into cream. Their happy little coven takes on new, malignant life when a dark and moneyed stranger, Darryl Van Horne, refurbishes the long-derelict Lenox mansion and invites them in to play. Thenceforth scandal flits through the darkening, crooked streets of Eastwick—and through the even darker fantasies of the town’s collective psyche.
