Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… in Devon, England. His family works a tenant farm, so Albert's spent most of his childhood around nature.

Living… on the farm, with his mother and father. It’s not an easy life – they don’t have a lot of money, and Albert’s father tends to make rash decisions. One of those rash decisions, however, provides Albert with his new best friend: Joey, a beautiful Thoroughbred his father bought instead of the draft horse he was supposed to buy.

Profession… horse-trainer, for now. Albert bonded with Joey immediately, but his parents can’t afford to keep him unless he does the work required of a farm horse. So now it’s up to Albert to train a gentleman’s horse to take to the plow.

Interests… spending time with Joey, whether it’s riding or training. Other than that, Albert tries to help out his family.

Relationship Status… single. Albert is a bit too young, not to mention too busy, for romance.

Challenge… keeping his new best friend. Not only is Joey unsuited for farm life, but there’s also a war brewing. Either Joey or Albert—or both—might be required to serve their time for England. Amidst the whirlwind of war, it is not clear if they will stay together. Still, Albert tries to stay positive, telling his friend, “We'll be all right, Joey. We're the lucky ones, you and me. Lucky since the day I met you.”

Personality… earnest, caring, and determined. Albert will do anything for his best friend – even head into the battlefield. He’s not the type to ever give up. Instead, Albert just charges ahead with a smile on his face, never seeming to doubt that things will turn out all right. Despite the obstacles, he promises Joey, “Wherever you are, I will find you and I will bring you home.”
