Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… in a small town. Despite his humble beginnings, Alan always had dreams of making a name for himself. Thankfully, he had his good looks to fall back on, so he moved to L.A. to pursue modeling.

Profession… model. After a rough start, Alan got his big break: posing as the cover model for Loretta Sage’s series of romance novels. He portrays Dash McMahon, the primary love interest of Dr. Lovemore, the series' protagonist. The primary audience of the novels is women, so his good looks and association with the highly erotic character have grown him a sizable following. His presence at venues brings in a large audience, so he attends practically every promotional event for the novels and, at times, is even treated with more respect and veneration than Loretta Sage herself.

Relationship Status… single. Despite having hundreds of women that adore him, Alan is single. After years of working with Loretta on book tours and photo shoots, it seems that Alan might have developed a crush on her. Although he can appear quite confident, he is often clumsy and ineloquent in his attempts to flirt with Loretta. Alan is frustrated that she doesn’t take him more seriously. As he tells Loretta, “I thought you of all people would know not to judge a book by its cover."

Challenge… living up to his public image. Dash McMahon is a part of the cultural zeitgeist as a symbol of the peak erotic male form. The character is written as being the perfect lover as well as being brave and resourceful. Alan is none of these things; he is just handsome. Somewhere along the line, Alan became obsessed with meeting the expectations that people had of this fictional character. It seemed ridiculous at first, but these high expectations may end up helping him to develop and better himself as a person.

Personality… sensitive and goofy. Alan has good intentions, and most of the time he has good plans, but he has terrible execution. He is clumsy, unfocused, and aloof. This, however, is quite endearing. He is clearly a good-hearted guy, and it is hard not to put trust in him or root for him. Alan can have his feelings hurt easily, which may be a flaw, but, in his case, it adds to his likeability.
