Bob Belcher

Grew Up… tirelessly laboring in his father’s restaurant, Big Bob’s Diner. While Bob learned all the skills that would one day allow him to run his own struggling restaurant, he resented his father for robbing him of a childhood. 

Living… with his wife and three young kids in a tiny apartment above his restaurant, Bob’s Burgers. Bob loves his family but they can be a lot to deal with: his wife is often out of touch with reality, and his kids are frequently disrespectful and have a knack for getting into trouble. As he tells them, “Listen, you’re my children and I love you but you’re all terrible.” Still, at the end of the day, the family loves each other and always pulls together when they need to.

Profession… chef and owner of Bob’s Burgers. He’s a good chef by almost all accounts and people often rave about the food but the restaurant still constantly teeters on the edge of closure. Bob just has rotten luck. There’s always something that gets in the way of running a profitable restaurant, whether it’s a fire, a corrupt health inspector, or an infestation of bikers. It’s a testament to the resilience of the Belcher family that the restaurant remains open in defiance of long odds. 

Interests… spaghetti westerns, anthropomorphizing things, puns, his own terrible jokes, and burgers.

Relationship Status… married. Although she drives him crazy most of the time, Bob really does love his wife Linda. She may try to spend money they don’t have, sing too much, and dismiss major problems – but at the end of the day she’s the most caring and loving person Bob has ever met. 

Challenge… staying afloat. Bob’s the worry wart of the family. While Linda gets to be the happy and enthusiastic one, always optimistic about the future and money, Bob is saddled with all of the worry and anxiety that comes with trying to raise three children and own a restaurant. Though his family tries to help him with money in any way that they can, Bob feels pressure to be the breadwinner and to make all of the money himself. 

Personality… levelheaded, honest, and goofy. Bob often feels like the only sane person in the world, and is often the only person to react semi-reasonably to the crises that regularly grip the restaurant. While he’s prone to complaining and often emanates a quiet irritation, Bob really does love his life – caring deeply for his wife, children, and restaurant. He just wishes that things could be a little easier.
