FLCL follows Naota Nandaba, who lives in a small, dusty Japanese town where "nothing amazing happens" and "everything is ordinary." Guillermo was inspired by Antonio Banderas's role in Interview With A Vampire. As he explains, he had never seen a Hispanic vampire before, and he thought: if he can do it, why can't I?
